Press Conference at The Oberoi Grand
The Oberoi Grand, on Jawaharlal Nehru Road in the heart of central Kolkata, is under restoration. Its operator told the stock exchanges that rooms closed in August 2024 and banquet facilities in March 2025, with the hotel to reopen in phases. When it hosts events again, its Chowringhee address will put a 5-star room a short walk from the Maidan. Until then, Indian PR Distribution (IPRD)® suggests central alternatives.

Why The Oberoi Grand matters for a press conference
Few hotel addresses are as central for Kolkata's press as Chowringhee. Reporters who start the day at desks in central Kolkata or at the Press Club on the Maidan can reach Jawaharlal Nehru Road quickly, which matters for a midday start that has to leave time to file.
A heritage 5-star room there suits a felicitation, a cultural announcement or a brand that wants a classic Kolkata setting. Once the hotel publishes its restored banquet and meeting rooms, we will set out the halls and capacities here.
In the meantime, central Kolkata still has strong options: the Press Club for news-led announcements, and Taj Bengal in Alipore for a 5-star room. The cost guide explains how venue category moves the budget.
