Why it is news
The person honoured, and why it matters to Bengal.
A felicitation is news when the reader cares about the person or the reason: a local athlete back from a win, a teacher with a lifetime of service, a scientist recognised abroad, an organisation's own awards for its field. The desk's question is simple: who is being honoured, by whom, and why now.
An awards evening with many categories needs one clear story for the media: the headline award, the best-known recipient, or the idea behind the awards. We find it, and give the rest of the winners a list the desks can print.
Felicitations are often organised by associations, schools, clubs and foundations that run the event themselves. Media relations only fits that well, and the invitation goes to the same desks as any corporate event.

| Culture, education or sports pages | The field the award is for |
| Business desks | Corporate or industry awards, and what they recognise |
| Television and digital | The moment of the award and a short interview |
Run of show

| When | What happens | For the media |
|---|---|---|
| 30 minutes before | Media desk opens; list of honourees in kits | Names and titles in English and Bengali |
| Start | Welcome and the reason for the honour | The news line in the first minutes |

| After | Interviews and group photograph | Before the honouree is taken away by guests |
Timings are a typical shape; we fix them with you around the guest list and the day's news. For the full sequence, see how to organise a press conference.
Two ways to run it
Managed, or at your hall.
Managed (Mode A)
We find the venue through our venue partners, design the stage, backdrop and screen, plan F&B by plate count and the guest flow, and run the media side. Managed press conference.
Media relations only (Mode B)
Your association, school or company runs the ceremony. We bring the city, Bengali and subject desks, run the media desk and interviews, and send the release and pictures. Press conference media relations.
Venue, F&B and production are quoted separately from the media work, on your brief. What drives the cost of a press conference.
The press kit
What reporters need at a felicitation.
- The release: who is honoured, by whom, and why
- A citation or biography of each honouree
- Names and titles spelt correctly in English and Bengali
- High-resolution portraits of the honourees
- The list of all winners for awards with several categories
- Background on the organisers and the award
- The Bengali release
A fuller list is in our press kit checklist.
After the event
From the stage to the morning paper.
Release the same day
Sent within hours, with the honouree's name and the reason in the first line, and the photograph captioned.
Pictures with captions
A selection of the best photographs, captioned with names and titles, to every desk that attended and every desk that could not.
Bengali release
Written natively, because a Bengal achiever's story is read first in Bengali, and often by the honouree's own town.
Wider distribution
For a national award, add national press release distribution. Our article on using events and activations for brand awareness covers the wider plan.
Coverage follow-up
Calls to the reporters filing, extra quotes or figures when they ask, and corrections caught before the next edition.
Report
What ran in print, digital and television, with clippings and links, in one report.
Kolkata media
Bengali and national desks, from our own city.
Our organic campaign for a Kolkata entrepreneur, the first Indian to finish a marathon at the Geographic North Pole, was carried by 18 publications in English, Hindi and Bengali, from Ei Samay to The Times of India, The Economic Times and ANI. It was a pitching campaign rather than a press conference, and it shows the desks we work with every week.

FAQ
Award and felicitation questions
How do I get media coverage for a felicitation ceremony in Kolkata?
Give the desks one clear reason, who is honoured and why it matters, invite city, Bengali and subject desks by name, plan the photo moment, and send the release with captioned pictures the same day.
Our awards have many categories. How do the media cover them?
Desks usually lead with one award or one recipient and print the full list. We help you choose the headline story and prepare the list in both languages.
Can you handle only the media for our ceremony?
Yes. Associations, schools and companies often run the ceremony themselves and ask us for the media side. See press conference media relations.
Can a celebrity present the award?
Yes. A known guest changes the media interest. Appearances, fees and contracts are arranged on your brief through celebrity association.
Should the release be in Bengali?
For most felicitations in Bengal, yes. Bengali dailies and their district editions are often where the honouree's story is read most closely.
